• Beam and community partner Aurora Energy to co-host Safe Academy to teach e-scooter safety

[15 December 2021] Leading micromobility company Beam will host a real-world training course in Hobart across two days to teach visitors and locals e-scooter safety.

Co-hosted by community partner Aurora Energy, the Beam Safe Academy incorporates a briefing guide for new riders, an interactive safety quiz and a free training course for riders to test out their e-scooter skills in a supportive environment. 

The Beam Safe Academy program has been developed in partnership with safety experts Ascent Training Services, forms part of Beam’s community engagement efforts to educate riders on local riding rules and safe handling of e-scooters. 

Riders will learn safe operating and manoeuvring skills, such as how to turn, brake and signal to other riders and pedestrians. All participants also receive $5 in free ride credit.

Beam riders can also get five minutes of free ride time by completing the in-app safety quiz, designed to test their knowledge of local riding rules and e-scooter safety protocol. 

Beam will launch its operations in Hobart on Friday 17 December, with a $1 unlock fee and $0.45 per minute charge. 

300 e-scooters will be available for hire across inner-city Hobart, covering popular visitor areas such as Sandy Bay and Salamanca, and residential suburbs North Hobart and New Town. 

The Tasmanian Beam fleet will feature hydraulic suspension, a double kick-stand for anti-tipping, triple brakes, bluetooth-locked helmet, phone and coffee holders, as Beam continues to bring the newest micromobility technology to Australia.

• Saturday 18 December, 10.00am - 2.00pm at IMAS, Castray Esplanade, Battery Point
• No bookings are required, walk-ups welcome!
• Riders must be aged 16 and up to ride an e-scooter
