[13 October 2022] Global micromobility company Beam will bring its brand of community-first shared-micromobility to Albany, with 200 purple e-scooters to be introduced to the city ahead of summer.
Beam’s operations will bring not only access to shared e-scooters for local residents and visitors to the city, but also the creation of up to 15 local jobs to manage the trial in the local community.
The app-based service will feature affordable pay-as-you-go rates, ‘virtual docking’ (incentivised fixed parking) to protect the city’s amenity, and an in-app and in person safety school for rider and community education.
Beam will also support industry-first micromobility research, powered by Beam’s alignment with the Micromobility Research Partnership, which will investigate topics such as urban planning, sustainability and the impact of micromobility in the city throughout the trial.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Council to deliver Albany’s first shared micromobility operations, and to bring our industry leading e-scooters to the region,” said Beam’s General Manager (ANZ) Tom Cooper.
“As the largest shared micromobility operator in Western Australia, we look forward to working collaboratively with local businesses, local council and the community to bring our safe, affordable and sustainable e-scooters to both residents and visitors.
“As micromobility becomes more commonplace in Western Australia, we believe its usage will only continue to increase exponentially, as we have seen in other Australian states, with more locals and visitors choosing to ride an e-scooter and leave their cars behind.
“As we prepare to commence our operations in Albany, we are also committed to developing collaborative partnerships with local community members and organisations and engage in discussions around the safe operation of e-scooters to ensure the safety of both riders, pedestrians and other road users.
“We know that bringing a new mode of transport to the streets brings change for everyone - pedestrians, drivers, and the broader community.
“We have the experience in community engagement, technology and safety education to make this trial in Albany a successful one and thank the City of Albany for their trust in us to deliver.”
